New York Attorney General Charged With Federal Financial Fraud Charges

A federal grand jury brought charges against the New York attorney general for financial misconduct this past Thursday, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The US attorney for the eastern district of Virginia directly submitted the case before the judicial panel on Thursday, according to the source.

US attorneys do not typically appear before a grand jury.

Halligan was installed as US attorney last month following the president became frustrated over the speed in ongoing probes targeting political opponents.

This step is the president’s latest effort to utilize federal justice authorities to penalize political rivals.

This occurs two weeks following Halligan secured charges targeting the former FBI director.

Career prosecutors drafted a memorandum in that case explaining the reasons charges lacked merit.

Comey denied the charges recently.
