Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a potentially fatal accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The dangerous situation took place on the third rotation when marshals were observed on the circuit as Lawson was returning to the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the Formula 1 racer Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you just see that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was observing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals dashing across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Obviously there's been a failure in communication somehow but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be allowed to just sprint across the track in such a way. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm sure we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the events

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" declared the FIA

"During the third lap, track officials were informed and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the orders to send marshals were rescinded and a safety warning flag was shown in that area"

"We are still investigating what happened subsequent to that time"
