Two individuals fatally injured in a violent incident on a Jewish house of worship in Manchester have been revealed by authorities as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby, and Melvin Cravitz, 66.

Three additional individuals are still hospitalized with severe trauma after Jihad Al-Shamie used an automobile into individuals before attacking with a knife on Thursday morning.

The attack, which authorities have declared was a terror-related event, came on the Day of Atonement, the holiest day in the Jewish tradition.

The attacker, who was fatally shot at the scene, was a thirty-five-year-old British citizen of Syrian heritage who was not on record to counter-terrorism authorities, according to official statements.

Community Response

"Our hearts are broken," Britain's senior Jewish leader commented.

Speaking to a major broadcast, he stated: "The tragic incident was an awful blow to us, something which we had been concerned about might happen because of the preceding circumstances."

The attack was not only "a profoundly troubling moment" for Jews in Britain "but for everyone in our country," he added.

Government Response

"The government's duty is to ensure our Jewish citizens, our people can conduct their daily activities with protection and peace of mind," the Home Secretary declared.

"It is unacceptable that Jewish citizens in our country to believe they must live a smaller Jewish life, that they cannot conduct their affairs and follow their beliefs and go to their communal institutions in liberty," she continued.

The assailant was not recognized to security services, she told news organizations, and it was "premature" to say if there was a terrorist cell behind the attack.

Investigation Update

The law enforcement inquiry was "continuing at pace" and there was an increased police presence at synagogues across the UK.

"Funding is available for protective measures," the minister stated, adding: "I think we will have to consider what further actions we can take to address growing religious prejudice."

Local authorities announced they were supporting the families of the two deceased individuals.

"Sincere condolences are with those affected by this tragedy at this incredibly difficult period," the lead investigator expressed.

He confirmed that specialized support personnel were in touch with relatives and would provide ongoing help through the official inquiries.

"While protocols must be followed which require adherence, we pledge to remain sensitive of community customs and needs and to ensuring that these men and their relatives' requests are honored," he added, noting that the deceased individuals were from the local area.

Post-mortems are taking place on the next day, according to official sources.
